Race 2
And they are off... To a fleet start with 4 entries: Money Spinner, Fifth Avenue, Conquista and Blue Sky.
On a glorious winter's day the fleet beats into a steady Nor'easter, course 7, from Clarke Island to Cannae Point near the Manly Quarantine Station and back. Three boats effortlessly pull ahead, just Fifth Avenue points about as accurately as a sawn off shotgun today, criss crossing our beautiful harbour in 60 degree angles. Eventually the culprit is identified, it's the overlapping Genoa, and after the dim witted foredeck finally changes sails into something more appropriate she finally points in the general direction of the next waymark. Meanwhile the rest of the fleet already heads the other way. Downwind and under spinnacker. But of course there is always someone who hasn't run their tapes properly, today it's Conquista, who is rewarded with a handsome hour glass. Eventually everyone is under way, carrying their kites all the way to the finish line.
While Blue Sky claims line honours, Money Spinner and Conquista beat her on handicap. Fifth Avenue earns an honorable mention for geographical embarrassment. Overall another wonderful day on the water, celebrated afterwards in the pub.
